Portland House

ApartmentsResidential

Our client approached us with a brief for the conversion and modernisation of this 1950s concrete panel office block to form a new residential development. Alterations were also proposed to the existing listed building fronting Portland Square.

Portland House forms part of a prestigious and well known grade II listed square and was rebuilt in part following extensive bomb damage. The site in question had been subject to numerous refused planning applications and the proposals were scrutinised by English heritage and the Bristol City Council conservation team.

The proposal involved working with the existing structure with minimal alterations to the building fabric and concrete panel system to form 19 new flats. The façade was over-clad to give a fresh modern feel providing a clear line of separation between the listed façade to Portland square and new façade to Dean Street.
