Renovation and Refurbishment of a Listed Building in a Conservation Area

Fronted by a listed three storey Victorian terrace, this complex of buildings had fallen into disrepair.

We were engaged to design a scheme to maximise the potential of the buildings and concluded that the key to the redevelopment of the site was the integration of the rear areas into the scheme. The development comprises a new walkway through the buildings, connecting 2 neighbouring streets and a rear courtyard which was previously unused. This encourages the public to permeate the site. In a later addition to the scheme, extensive negotiation with the Conservation Officer resulted in the addition of a mansard roof over 3 bays of the property.

In recognition of the improvement to the area, the scheme received a Bristol Civic Society Environmental Award.
